Delicia is a no-frills Mexican restaurant tucked into a small commercial spot off Sunset Lane in Shingle Springs. Its location might seem unassuming—right near the highway and neighboring some less conventional businesses—but this family-operated eatery makes up for it with authentic, thoughtfully prepared food that locals notice immediately.

The atmosphere here is straightforward and clean, favoring practicality over ambiance, which makes it especially welcoming for families and casual weekday meals rather than romantic evenings or formal gatherings. Inside, you'll find a relaxed, family-friendly vibe where the focus is squarely on the food and friendly service as the owner and his mother handle much of the kitchen craft themselves.

Delicia’s menu leans into classic Mexican flavors without overcomplicating them. The burritos, especially those filled with pork or chicken, stand out in the local scene, which doesn’t offer a wide range of authentic Mexican options. Street tacos—both meat and vegetarian versions—are served fresh and topped with traditional fixings like cilantro, salsa, and guacamole, presenting a genuine taste of home-style Mexican fare. Vegetarians also have dedicated choices like veggie street tacos and sides such as homemade refried beans and seasonally rotating Agua Frescas, which add variety without losing authenticity.

Many diners come here for the heartier dishes like the birria stew and enchiladas, which clearly reflect the family’s care in seasoning and preparation. The sauces and seasonings receive particular attention, creating a warm, comforting experience that speaks to passion over flash. This is a spot where the food clearly benefits from recipe heritage and personal involvement, marked by a certain steadiness through repeat visits.

If you’re local or just passing through, the best time to visit might be during a casual lunch or early dinner on a weekday when the service is smooth and the kitchen rhythm hums along. It’s the kind of place where regulars appreciate that consistency—the same thoughtful flavors, humble setting, and genuine hospitality. Though simple, Delicia delivers a snapshot of Mexican home cooking that holds its own in the growing but still limited Mexican food landscape around Shingle Springs.

The owner and his mother create special Mexican dishes here that are above and beyond typical Mexican fare. This is a top tier family operation on a food quality basis. Service has improved as the owner has gotten more help. Ambiance is basic, but clean. Not a date night place, and it is very family friendly and relaxed. The enchiladas, and birria (stewed beef in this case) are to die for. Get the quesabirria when you first come here as a starter, it is kind of a signature food of the restaurant. Proteins and sauces are all very high quality. I have had tacos, enchiladas, relleno, and they are all amazing. You should try it.

The restaurant itself is in a bit of an odd location, right off the highway next to an abandoned house and outdoor steel garden animal business, but the food is worth it! Out of all the Mexican restaurants in the area (there’s like 3 including this one) this place had the best burritos-especially the pork and chicken options. The menu isn’t that large, but they do serve more authentic style street Mexican food. It’s very taco truck style food, and the prices reflect that. Their salsas are homemade and the red one is very spicy in a good way. The owner’s son was super kind and was running the place himself with his twin sisters. Overall it’s absolutely worth a visit!

Second time here and I'm just so so blown away. I cannot stop thinking about the sauces, the seasonings, the overall warmness and happiness I felt with each bite. You can tell that there is a lot of love and a lot of passion that goes into this food. It is an absolute treasure of a restaurant.

Hands down The best tacos I've ever had in this area would recommend it to anybody coming from the Santa Cruz Bay area where tacos are all over the place. I've missed this authentic taste.

HUGE shout-out to Hilda and Leo, who run Delicia. They make, by far, the best Mexican food we have ever had. Everything is killer, but the food that stole the show were the 3-meat fajitas, cheese enchiladas, and the fluffiest red rice that will ever tickle your taste buds. Hilda, Leo, and family do all the leg work and still manage to offer a great experience to customers. Thank you for a delicious evening, Delicia!

A hidden gem of a restaurant you must try. Visiting the area and local sister in law recommended we all try out this place which seems to have changed ownership (not sure how recently). Family-run, the place is not large but the food is excellent. Leo said his mom does the cooking. We had steak fajitas, street tacos, tostada, and carne taco salad. All great quality and definitely worth coming back for. I especially enjoyed the huge michelada (oh so tasty and satisfying). Looking forward to returning next time we're visiting the area.
